Swan Valley Elementary School is located in Irwin, 5 miles southeast of the Centre at Rainey Creek. The school enrolls about 60 students in grades Pre-K thru 8. Families in the community are very fortunate to have a free Pre-K program for 3 and 4 year old students and a full time kindergarten program. High school students are bused to Ririe High School.
There are four teachers who teach in multiple grade classrooms. Because of the small student count, the staff-to-student ratio is very unique and allows for individualized teaching. For the past several years Swan Valley Elementary School has been recognized by the Idaho State Department of Education for being a top performing school in Idaho. Top Performers must be ranked in the top 10% of schools in the state of Idaho.
Also, because of the richness and abundance of natural wildlife and resources in our area, the students experience opportunities such as skiing, watching the wild salmon run, and naturalist type field trips. They also have a strong art and music program as part of our curriculum and several after school activities such as basketball, volleyball, and Mars Rover. Students have access to a variety of technology, each student has their own iPad, and teaching is enhanced with the use of Apple TV's, smart boards, and a large variety of educational apps. For being a small rural school they are proud to be a state-of-the-art technology school! Every year they proudly present a Missoula Children's Theatre© production each spring, sponsored by either the P.T.O or the Swan Valley School.
The strong P.T.O. also sponsors a 5K Square Scoot Fun Run, a Halloween Carnival each October, and supports our Ski School Program at Grand Targhee each winter. In addition, the community has many wonderful philanthropist that ensure our students have access to opportunities they might not have otherwise had.
